Unbeatable?

I have been growing and showing veg since 1996, a brilliant hobby contrary to popular belief and the views of my mates who think I’m a big poof (I’ve got nothing against poofs however!). This is just a chart of my progress for the 2017 season, if you have any specific questions about ‘showing’ then email me on smithyveg@aol.com and I’ll do my best to answer them.

I'd be interested to what percentage of the points are awarded for the condition and/or size of the calyx.
I only ask as I won a tomato class at my local show with what I would describe as poorer tomatoes than some of the others but mine had enormous calyxs' and the others had small ones.
What do you reckon ?
Hi Dan,
Good to see you're having some success. Points aren't actually awarded for the calyces as such but fresh, green ones would show that the tomatoes were in good condition. The smaller ones on your competitors' toms probably let them down and signified they were on the old side. The calyces on my Sileby toms were slightly past their best also.
Depends what you mean by 'poorer'....if smaller that doesn't mean a thing as the judge may have given you more for condition/uniformity/shape etc.
Biggest isn't always best.
Regards
Simon
