One more thing......

....from that last post. My low key method is good enough for producing reasonable onions and leeks for local shows and the like. If you want to exhibit at a higher level there are all sorts of expensive things you would have to do from having thermostatically controlled growing cabinets, grolights, special potting mixes, and so on, as well as changing the amount of light the plants get from week to week.

The problem I have with this is telling the missus she can't have a holiday this year 'cos I'm spending 500 quid to get a 10lb onion. It would more than likely mean I would suffer REAL disembowelment rather than the man-flu version.

If you want my advice for what it's worth.....
Don't EVER try to grow a 10 pounder.
I tried and failed ( Just ) and missing out on my annual Walking Hols to Arran as a consequence of me treating a bloody onion with more care and attention than you would your own child now seems ridiculous.

I have now gained a new perspective.

Never again...LOL.

Dan....are you going to Arran again this year? If so take the ferry from Lochranza over to the Mull of Kintyre at Skipness. Go north to Skipness House & castle and the seafood cabin which is run by my brother and his sister in law. The cabin is part of the seafood trail and is world renowned apparently.

I shall instruct them to set the dogs on you!

OK, I admit 10lb is a slight exageration of what I really hope to grow. How does a 5 pounder grab you? Is that more realistic, or am I still talking cr*p?

A walking holiday in Iran sounds interesting. Do Ryanair fly there? You really must learn to spell.
