I have been growing and showing veg since 1996, a brilliant hobby contrary to popular belief and the views of my mates who think I’m a big poof (I’ve got nothing against poofs however!). This is just a chart of my progress for the 2017 season, if you have any specific questions about ‘showing’ then email me on smithyveg@aol.com and I’ll do my best to answer them.

I am a judge!
Just had it confirmed that I passed the recent NVS judges exam, with 90% on the theory and 81% on the practical. Wonder when I can judge the National?!?
Question Aubergines,Broccoli- coloured,Okra,Sweetcorn all 18 point veg why do few shows including national have classes for them. They never seem to be used in collections either why?
Snobbery by all of us. Things like okra, aubergines, sweetcorn are sniffed at and I doubt you'll ever see them among collections at the highest level.
Not saying I agree with it, they're not easy to grow and deserve to be 18 pointers. Just needs someone brave enough to take the plunge with them.....mmm I wonder who would be stupid enough to do that?!?
Your honor, what would the northerners say if you were to judge the harrogate show especialy knowing you were a southerner of some distinction and also the MTC.I hope i have not upset anyone
Oh my god. Its the end of judging as we know it. Well done Smithy.
